During his visit, The Duke of Edinburgh met around 90 volunteers and representatives from a wide range of community groups that work hard to improve the environment and biodiversity in and around Farnham. The riverside avenue of trees, which has been named Jubilee Walk, include liquidambar and Himalayan birch which were chosen for their vibrant seasonal colour and stunning architectural impact. The Duke of Edinburgh visited FARNHAM, Surrey on 20 March to plant the 70th and final tree in an avenue that was created to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. “This tree will be a lasting memorial in her honour.” Councillor Vigar said: “Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was held in very high regard by the people in the town. The ceremony was attended by councillors, members of the Preservation Trust, volunteers, Councillor Katie Vigar, the Mayor of Bradford on Avon and the Deputy Lieutenant, Air Vice Marshal David Couzens. A Rockhampton Red variety of hornbeam was chosen because it is a purple leaf tree which represents royalty. On 28 March, a hornbeam was planted on Barton Lawn in Barton Farm Country Park. To commemorate her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years of service, BRADFORD ON AVON Town Council has planted a memorial tree as part of its townwide tree planting. MEMORIAL TREE FOR HER LATE MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II Councils around the country marked her passing with respect and also looked forward to a new era with the accession of King Charles III to the throne. Aged 96, she had served as monarch for 70 years and had recently celebrated her Platinum Jubilee.
